Mike is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is one of only 5,000 members who have received the Personal Financial Specialist certification from the Institute. He is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner, a designation received from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc.
Mike has more than 40 years experience in accounting procedures, financial management and forecasting, tax compliance and planning and operational benchmarking.
Before establishing Mike Higgins C.P.A., Mike served as Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer or Controller for several high technology firms and service companies. He has provided professional services to NYSE companies, for profit and nonprofit organizations. He also was President and COO of a group of private energy service organizations. Mike was also an audit manager for the public accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand in Chicago (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers).
His strength is leading business transformation endeavors. Mike’s wide ranging and broad business background has equipped him with the tools necessary to be an effective change agent for his clients. Mike has developed and installed a variety of accounting and reporting systems for large and small companies. He has also structured numerous public offerings and negotiated large credit facilities.
He earned his B.B.A. in Accounting from Loyola University in Chicago where he was a member of the Beta Alpha Psi honor society and an officer of Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity. He has a Master of Business Administration degree from the Graduate School of Business of the University of Chicago and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas.
He is married to his college sweetheart Sandy and they are proud parents of four adult children and very proud grandparents of seven grandchildren. Mike is a deacon at St. Ignatius Loyola Church and enjoys studying classical languages and sacred scripture in his spare time.
